I work at the Communication and Image Unit of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Portugal), where I am responsible for establishing a closer connection with our research units and fostering the communication of ‘our’ science.
Before, I worked as Science Public Information Officer at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes – cE3c (March 2016 – July 2021).
My academic path is quite varied. I am a Physicist by training, with a PhD in Evolutionary Game Theory and Network Science (2008-2012, University of Lisbon), after which I did a Master’s in Science Communication (2012-2015, New University of Lisbon). And a PostDoc in Evolutionary Game Theory and Network Science (2013-2014, University of Aveiro). Yes, at the same time.
I had the honor of serving as Vice-President of SciComPt – Portuguese Science and Technology Communication Network between November 2020 and July 2023: an association which aims to map and highlight the work of science communicators in Portugal and contribute to form the identity of the science communicator in our country, in order to make the community, the professional area and science itself prosper.
For me, science communication is about making useful to others my passion for reading, writing and learning about any area, contributing to a more informed society and making science as a natural part of culture.
